Pat Dare's Photo Gallery
Welcome to my gallery. I have always enjoyed taking pictures. My first digital camera was a Kodak DC4800 and I had used it mainly to take snapshots at events involving family and friends. After a while, I wanted to have more capability. So I purchased a Panasonic Lumix FZ10 that had a Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens which provided 12x optical zoom with image stabilization. Because of its zoom range and macro capability, it opened up many more photo opportunities. I carried the camera around more regularly and looked for interesting things to shoot.
Later on, I purchased a Panasonic Lumic DMC-LX2 to complement the FZ10. The LX2 had a wider field of view and it was smaller. It didn't have as much zoom range, but it was very responsive and had lots of manual control options that made it fun to use. I found it convenient to use the LX2 as an all purpose camera and used the FZ10 only when I wanted more zoom capability or intend to shoot macros. Unfortunately, I ended up losing the LX2.
I felt it was time to upgrade to a dslr and purchased a Nikon D40x. The dslr opens up even more photo opportunities with its large offering of lenses to suit different shooting situations. So far, my Nikon sytem collection of lenses is somewhat limited. Although the Nikon D40x was reasonably light and easy to tote around, having extra lenses adds a lot more bulk and weight.
When the Panasonic LX3 became available, I purchased it to complement my dslr. It has a DC Vario-Summicrom F2.0-2.8 lens that allowed it to work well in low light situations. It also has a sufficiently wide field of view at 24mm equivalent. With this, I can use the dslr in combination with either a telephoto or a prime lens attached depending upon my needs..
I have recently purchased a Nikon D3100 body to take advantage of new sensor technology and its better low light and cropping ability. Now I can employ two dslr's each with different lens mounted for different purposes. Otherwise, the D40x will simply serve as a backup.
My latest camera acquisition is a Panasonic G3. This is a 3rd generation Micro-Four-Thirds (M43) System camera using a newer sensor that allows the picture quality to approach that of dslr's. One of the reasons for buying into this systems is to be able to have a more compact setup with a longer zoom range than I would have with my Nikon. I was also tempted to get one of the latest super-zoom bridge cameras, but I felt that the M43 system with its set of inter-changeable lenses, will cover a larger variety of uses and it should provide better rsults in low light situations.
This gallery is a growing collection of pictures that I had taken and felt were worth sharing.   Please feel free to write me if you have any comments about my gallery
